What proper drywall installation involves

• Layout and framing. Laser leveling, marks on floor and ceiling, UW/CW profiles at 40-60cm spacing. For acoustic partitions — double decoupled frame, otherwise sound transfers straight through the metal.
• Services inside. Before closing up, electrical, low-voltage and AC refrigerant lines are routed. Wet zones use sleeves for flexible runs. Every outlet and fixture gets a backing plate for later mounting.
• Insulation / soundproofing. Mineral or rock wool at the correct density, vapor barrier for wet zones. Serious sound insulation uses a heavy acoustic membrane plus two drywall layers of different thickness (for broadband resonance).
• Sheeting. Standard 12.5mm GKL for living spaces; moisture-resistant green board for bathrooms, kitchens and balconies; fire-rated red board for stairwells and plant rooms. Staggered joints, never two sheets meeting on a single profile.
• Jointing and finish. Scrim tape on seams, two skim coats with sanding in between, metal corner beads on external corners. Only after this is the surface ready for paint, wallpaper or tile.

5 marks of a professional drywall installer

• Right materials. Uses reputable GKL (Orgal, Knauf), the proper profiles, and never puts a 12.5mm sheet on a frame spaced at 80cm — that is a straight path to cracked joints.
• Structural understanding. Knows the difference between load-bearing and non-load-bearing framing, calculates the load on a suspended ceiling, picks the right sheet thickness for a TV niche (where anchors go into backing, not the sheet).
• Tools. Laser level, depth-stop screwdriver, drywall knife, edge planer, square, 2-m straightedge — the baseline kit. Without them you do not get a flat wall.
• Tidy work. Drywall is a dusty stage. A pro covers floor and furniture with film, uses a shop vac on every cut, and cleans up after each shift.
• Ownership and warranty. A serious pro takes the job turnkey — from framing to skim coat ready for paint — and guarantees the joints will not crack and the partition will not flex.
