Removing an old ceiling looks simple until wiring, ventilation, leaks or weak framing appear behind the boards. Safe demolition starts with checking services.
When to order this work
Demolition is needed before a new ceiling, after a leak, for electrical repairs or when the old structure sags, cracks or hides mold.
What to include in the request
- Area and height of the room.
- What is above the ceiling — lights, AC, ventilation or pipes.
- Debris removal — bag carrying and container needs.
- Next step — new drywall, stretch ceiling or concrete skim.
Typical cost in Israel
Expect from 45 ₪/m² for drywall ceiling demolition. Debris removal, height work, complex wiring and urgent call-outs may be separate.
What to watch for
Switch off lighting circuits and agree who provides temporary lighting. Unknown wires and old transformers should not simply be cut.
Frequently asked
Can I demolish it myself?
A small section, maybe. Full-room demolition has hidden wiring, dust and heavy sheets overhead; a pro is safer.
Is debris removal included?
Not always. State clearly whether carrying bags out or ordering a container is needed.
What after a leak?
Find and fix the water source first, remove damaged drywall, dry the cavity and only then close it again.
