Bathrooms, toilets and enclosed balconies are harsh on regular drywall. These areas need green moisture-resistant boards, working ventilation and a finish rated for damp rooms.
When to order this work
Order this during bathroom renovation, after fan replacement, when hiding pipes or wiring, or when the old ceiling has suffered from condensation and mold.
What to include in the request
- Room and area — bathroom, toilet, laundry area or enclosed balcony.
- Ventilation — existing fan, exhaust route and access panel needs.
- Lighting — damp-rated spots, LED and transformer placement.
- Finish — anti-mold primer, skim coat and moisture-resistant paint.
Typical cost in Israel
In Israel, expect from 195 ₪/m² for a simple moisture-resistant ceiling. Very small bathrooms are often priced as a minimum call-out, so 3–5 m² can cost more than a pure square-meter calculation.
What to watch for
Green board does not replace ventilation or waterproofing. If the ceiling is constantly wet, fix the condensation first or new finishing will stain quickly.
Frequently asked
Can regular drywall be used in a bathroom?
It is not recommended. Even with good paint, standard board handles humidity and temperature swings poorly.
Do I need an access panel?
Yes, if a fan, connectors, LED drivers or valves remain above the ceiling.
What paint should be used?
Acrylic or latex paint rated for wet rooms, preferably with anti-mold additives.
