A shower floor drain only works properly together with floor slope and waterproofing. It is not enough to place a drain in the floor: water must leave quickly, odour must stay out and the screed must remain dry.
What matters before installation
- Floor height. The drain body, trap and slope must physically fit.
- Slope to the drain. Otherwise water pools near the glass or door.
- Waterproofing. The drain flange must integrate with the wet area.
- Odour protection. A proper water seal or dry valve is needed.
What the work includes
- Preparing the location and waste outlet.
- Installing the drain body.
- Connecting to the waste line.
- Checking slope and leak-tightness.
- Coordinating waterproofing and tile work.
Typical prices in Israel
- Floor drain installation — 360–900 ₪
- With waste-line relocation — higher on site
- With full shower-floor preparation — usually involves a tiler
FAQ
Can a floor drain be installed without rebuilding the floor?
Sometimes, if there is enough height and the waste outlet is suitable. In a finished floor it is often complex.
Why does a floor drain smell like sewer?
The cause may be a dry trap, poor sewer ventilation or an unsuitable drain type.
