Pressure test

A pressure test shows whether the heating system holds pressure before startup and before being covered by finishes. Without it, new pipes, radiators and joints are effectively commissioned blind.

When pressure testing is done

  • After installing radiators and pipework.
  • After circuit repairs.
  • Before the heating season. If the system has been idle for a long time.
  • Before closing walls or floors. So they do not have to be reopened later.

How the test is carried out

  1. The circuit is isolated.
  2. The system is filled with water or air. The method depends on the task.
  3. Pressure is raised to the test level.
  4. The gauge is monitored and all joints are inspected.
  5. The result is recorded. Whether pressure drops and where the weak point is.

What matters

  • A pressure test does not replace good installation. It confirms the quality of work already done.
  • The test pressure must fit the system. You cannot just "push it higher".
  • If pressure drops, the cause is found immediately. The circuit should not be commissioned otherwise.

Typical prices in Israel

  • Pressure testing a small circuit — 290–550 ₪
  • With diagnostics and leak search — 450–900 ₪
  • For a large house or multi-zone system — quoted separately

FAQ

Is pressure testing done with water or air?

Both methods are used. A water test is often closer to working conditions, while air is convenient for diagnostics on an unfilled system. The method depends on the site.

Can the pressure test be skipped if the installation looks neat?

No. A visually neat installation does not guarantee that a joint will hold under pressure.

Can pipes be closed up immediately after a successful test?

Yes, if the test is passed and there is no pressure drop. That is exactly why it is done before finishes.
