Radiator removal

Radiator removal is needed before replacement, wall works, heating alterations or disposal of an old unit. The key is to remove it without water on the floor, stripped threads or trouble for the rest of the circuit.

When removal is needed

  • Full radiator replacement.
  • Wall or finish repair behind the unit.
  • Heating layout changes.
  • Disposal of an old or damaged emitter.

How proper removal is done

  1. The section is isolated. Valves are closed or the circuit is taken out of service.
  2. Residual water is drained. Otherwise the joint opens into a spill.
  3. Connections are undone. Carefully, without tearing old threads.
  4. The unit is lifted off the brackets. Heavy models may need a second person.
  5. Pipe ends are made safe. So the circuit stays protected until the next stage.

What affects the price

  • Material and weight. Cast iron takes more effort.
  • Access. Niches, boxes and furniture slow the work.
  • Condition of threads and valves. Old joints sometimes have to be cut carefully.

Typical prices in Israel

  • Removing one radiator — 180–450 ₪
  • Removing a heavy cast iron unit — from 300 ₪
  • Carry-out and disposal — by separate agreement

FAQ

Can a radiator be removed without draining water?

Only if the unit is isolated correctly and there is no trapped pressurised water between the valves. In practice, some draining is almost always needed.

Can the pipe ends be left open after removal?

It is better not to. They should be capped or temporarily linked depending on the system layout.

Can one person remove a cast iron radiator alone?

Sometimes no. Old heavy units are safer to remove with two people, especially in tight passages or stairs.
