Scuffed Painted Wall: Clean, Touch Up and Cost
By KABLAY Editorial · · 4 min read · Updated:

A chair-back scuff, children's mark or furniture abrasion does not always call for repainting an entire room. But covering it with a random white paint can create a rectangle more obvious than the original mark: sheen and ageing matter as much as colour. Identify the finish and the type of damage before choosing a stronger cleaner.
When gentle cleaning is enough
Test a slightly damp soft cloth in an inconspicuous spot without an abrasive. If the finish is washable, work carefully from the outer edge of the mark and dry it promptly. Repeated rubbing can burnish or lift a matte finish. Do not use a solvent without a compatibility test. If the paint is scratched through to filler, the wall is chipped or the patch is damp, cleaning cannot restore a level surface. Active moisture must be traced first.
Make a touch-up less visible
Find the original paint tin or a record of its maker, colour code and sheen. Check that stored paint is still usable. Remove loose material and dust, fill any chip with an appropriate compound and let it cure as directed. Use a compatible primer where bare substrate needs it, then apply thin paint coats. Even the same colour code may look different on an older wall because of light, fading and the application tool. Test a small patch before committing to a conspicuous area.
A mark in the centre of a large, strongly lit wall may be better handled by painting that wall from corner to corner. That does not automatically mean repainting the whole living room. Ask the painter to explain where the work will stop. For several marks in different rooms, request two quotes: individual patches and the affected complete wall surfaces.
Approximate price at the time
For late September 2026, a useful comparison point is ₪300–500 for a small paint repair. It comes from the HaMiktzoanim price guide, checked on 3 October 2026. Its range covers minor paint work and includes VAT, not a full wall, moisture repair or extensive plastering. This is an approximate late-September benchmark, not a verified historical price for every job on 27 September. Final cost changes with preparation, the number of marks, access, materials, minimum visit charges and the expected colour match.
Brief and inspect the job
Send a daylight photograph of the entire wall plus a close-up and dimensions of the mark. Include paint details if available. Ask the quote to separate cleaning, filler, primer, coats, furniture protection, materials and the painted area. Confirm VAT and any visit fee. Inspect only after the paint is dry, both in daylight and normal room light; wet paint looks different. Check the floor and skirting for splashes. If whole patches are peeling, use our peeling paint guide. To compare offers, request a painter.
