Balcony Tiling in Israel 2026: Waterproofing, Falls, Drainage and Prices
By KABLAY Editorial · · 10 min read

An Israeli balcony works hard under sun, coastal salt, dust, planters and short intense rain. Attractive tile alone is not enough. Performance depends on the threshold, falls, drain, waterproofing and details at railings and doors.
Inspect before choosing tile
- Where water travels now and where it ponds.
- Threshold height against the proposed floor.
- Waterproofing, skirting and wall junction condition.
- Cracks, hollow tiles and corrosion at metal details.
- Access to drains for future cleaning.
If the substrate is unknown or falls are wrong, do not add another layer only to avoid removal. Compare choices in tile over tile versus demolition.
Choose an exterior system
Ask for a matte outdoor tile intended for wet use and test a real sample, not a screen image, wet with a shoe and barefoot. Mid-tones often hide dust and scale better. Tile, adhesive, grout, trims and membrane must form a compatible exterior system.
Falls and drainage
Tiler and waterproofing contractor should plan the build-up together. Water moves away from the door and reaches the drain without local hollows. Walls, railings, outlets and pipe penetrations need continuous details; visible silicone is not the membrane below.
Price guide
The KABLAY price list shows balcony tiling around ₪240/m², removal around ₪45, waterproofing around ₪75–95 and a drain channel around ₪140 per meter. These are labor lines; disposal, tile, base repair, thresholds and railing details can add cost.
Specify the quote
- Removal or overlay based on inspection.
- Waterproofing system and test time before covering.
- Fall direction, drain type and threshold level.
- Exterior tile, adhesive, grout and movement joints.
- Planter moving, apartment protection and disposal.
Compare tilers in Ashkelon or create a balcony task. After the system’s curing time, run a controlled water check and confirm there is no ponding at the door or damp below.

Frequently asked questions
- Can tile go over an existing balcony floor?
- Only when the base is sound, waterproofing has not failed, falls work, and the new level preserves threshold and drainage.
- Which tile is less slippery?
- A matte exterior tile intended for wet use. Test a wet sample rather than relying on appearance alone.
- Does grout waterproof a balcony?
- No. Grout is a finish; continuous waterproofing lies below the tile and at edge details.
- How is the work accepted?
- After curing, run a controlled water test and inspect flow, the threshold, drain and the space below.
