A siphon is replaced when it no longer holds properly: cracked body, stripped thread, hardened seals or an assembly so bad that repairing it makes no sense.
When replacement is better than repair
- The body is cracked.
- The thread is stripped or warped.
- The old trap is built from random incompatible parts.
- Leaks and smells keep returning after tightening.
What is often changed together with the trap
- Seals and nuts.
- The flexible or rigid waste section.
- Appliance hose connectors built into the node.
- Sometimes the sink waste fitting itself.
How replacement is done
- Removing the old assembly.
- Cleaning and checking the waste outlet.
- Assembling the new trap.
- Testing for leaks and a proper water seal.
Typical cost
- Siphon replacement — from 190 ₪
- Materials and non-standard fittings — separate if not included
FAQ
Can the old flexible section be kept and only the bottle trap replaced?
Sometimes, but it is rarely the best option. If the node is already leaking or smelling, replacing the whole assembly is usually safer.
Why can a new siphon still leak?
Because of a twisted seal, a bad outlet geometry, a crack in the basin or an error elsewhere in the drain assembly. New parts alone do not guarantee the whole node is correct.
