Sewerage repair

Sewerage repair is much more than “clear a clog”. In Israeli apartments and villas, technicians fix cracked pipes, slab leaks, settled yard lines, leaking risers and wrong slopes left by old renovations. The earlier the fault is diagnosed, the smaller the chance of opening the floor and paying for neighbour damage.

What usually falls under “sewerage repair”

  • Leak in the floor or wall. Water leaves the pipe and enters the screed or slab.
  • Recurring clogs. If rodding helps for a week only, the issue is geometry or damage, not debris.
  • Sewer odour. Often caused by a crack, failed venting, a dry drain trap or a leaking hub.
  • Settlement of an external line. A “belly” forms in the yard pipe and dirty water stands there.
  • Failure of old cast iron. Pinhole leaks, wet patches, rust, noise and odour between floors.

How proper repair starts

  1. CCTV inspection. The camera shows cracks, offsets, clogs and the wall condition.
  2. Pinpointing the section. The exact place to open floor, wall or yard is identified.
  3. Choosing the method. Local replacement, hub rebuild, trenchless relining, riser replacement or outdoor-line replacement.
  4. Post-repair verification. Water test, odour check, leak tightness and service access.

How sewerage is repaired

  • Local pipe replacement. The most common fix inside an apartment or shaft.
  • Rebuilding a joint. Used when the issue is the hub or a bad transition between materials.
  • Trenchless repair / relining. Useful where expensive floors or yards should not be opened.
  • Outdoor line replacement. Needed when the pipe has settled, cracked or was laid with the wrong fall.
  • Riser repair. Local or full, depending on the building’s condition.

When repair is urgent

  • A wet patch grows every day.
  • The smell is strong and constant.
  • The downstairs neighbour already has water damage.
  • Flushing one fixture makes the whole bathroom gurgle.
  • A yard manhole or שוחת ביקורת is overflowing.

What sewerage repair costs in Israel

  • CCTV inspection — 350–900 ILS
  • Local repair of one joint — 600–1,800 ILS
  • Replacing 1–2 m of pipe inside an apartment — 800–2,500 ILS excluding finishes
  • Repairing a yard line — 2,000–8,000 ILS
  • Trenchless relining — 700–2,000 ILS per metre
  • Full riser or complex branch repair — priced separately

FAQ

Does sewerage repair always mean opening the tile?

No. If the defect is accessible in a shaft, a manhole or suitable for trenchless repair, large demolition can be avoided. But when a pipe is broken inside the screed and there is no alternative access, the floor has to be opened.

How is repair different from ordinary drain clearing?

Clearing removes the symptom — a specific blockage. Repair removes the cause: a crack, a settled line, wrong fall, bad joint or a damaged section of riser.

Can I repair only my section if the problem is in the common riser?

Usually no. If the source is the shared vertical stack or trunk, a local fix in one apartment only gives temporary relief. The vaad must coordinate repair of the common section.
