Electrical work in Israel

When You Need a Licensed Electrician in Israel

Electrical work is not a place to experiment. Wiring, panels, breakers, RCDs, new lines, three-phase service and EV charger installation should be handled by a specialist with a valid license matching the job. KABLAY helps you find and evaluate specialists, but the platform does not perform electrical work and does not replace an official license check.

This is a practical guide, not legal advice. Requirements can change; for complex or disputed jobs, check the official Israeli Ministry of Labor registry and confirm requirements with the electrician, an engineer, insurer or building management.

Jobs for a licensed electrician

  • Any electrical panel work: breakers, RCDs, RCBOs, grounding, surge protection.
  • New lines or relocating points: outlet, switch, AC line, boiler, oven, induction cooktop, EV charger.
  • Short-circuit diagnosis, burning smell, sparks, repeated breaker trips or power restoration after a fault.
  • Three-phase work, capacity upgrades, and documentation for inspection, insurance or connection.

Do not give this to a handyman

  • Opening the electrical panel or replacing protective devices.
  • Connecting high-load appliances directly to wiring.
  • Bypassing a breaker, RCD or grounding “just temporarily”.
  • Signing insurance or safety documents instead of a licensed electrician.

Ask before work starts

  • Full name, license number, license type/grade and validity date.
  • Scope of work, materials, and who buys them.
  • Whether a power shutoff, building committee approval, inspection or insurance report is needed.
  • Whether you receive a receipt/invoice, written work description and warranty terms from the specialist.

How to check an electrician

  1. 1Ask for a license photo or license number before the visit, especially for panels, new lines or emergency faults.
  2. 2Open the official Ministry of Labor electrician registry and compare the name, number, status and expiration date.
  3. 3Check whether the license type matches the job. For complex sites, shared building infrastructure and high loads, ask whether an engineer or inspector is needed.
  4. 4Document the agreement in KABLAY chat: scope, price, materials, timing, specialist warranty and documents after completion.

Red flags

  • The specialist refuses to show a license or says it is not needed.
  • They suggest installing a stronger breaker so it “stops tripping”.
  • They promise a fixed price for complex work without checking the panel and load.
  • They insist on cash only and no receipt for a large or regulated job.
  • They promise insurance documents but cannot explain who signs them and under what authority.

When approvals may be needed

  • Capacity upgrade, three-phase conversion or work related to grid connection.
  • Shared building panel, parking area, EV charger or cable route through common areas.
  • New apartment, major renovation, site after fire/flood or work needed for an insurance claim.
  • Large loads: induction cooktop, central AC, EV charger, industrial equipment.

What to keep for insurance

  • Photos and videos before repair: panel, damaged area, burn marks, water or overheating signs.
  • Electrician license number, receipt/invoice and written cause of the fault.
  • List of replaced parts/materials, after-repair photos and test results if issued.
  • Messages with the specialist and KABLAY if there is a dispute over timing, quality or scope.

What KABLAY does, and what the specialist does

KABLAY helps you choose

We show profile data, reviews, portfolio, service areas and separate badges: ID verified, license verified, insurance verified.

The specialist performs the work

The selected electrician is responsible for the work, price, warranty, materials, documents and professional result agreed directly with the client.

KABLAY helps with disputes

We help collect chat history, photos and documents, forward complaints to the specialist and support resolution. Compensation is not automatic and is reviewed case by case.

FAQ

Does ID verified mean licensed electrician?+

No. ID verification confirms identity. An electrician license is a separate status and must match the specific job and be current on the order date.

Does KABLAY guarantee the license is active today?+

KABLAY may mark a license as checked at moderation time. Before regulated work, the client should ask for the current license number and verify it in the official registry.

Who provides the warranty for electrical work?+

The selected electrician provides the work warranty. KABLAY helps document agreements and mediate complaints, but does not perform electrical work.

Do I need a license to change a bulb?+

Simple household actions like changing a bulb are not an electrical project. If wiring, a connection, outlet, switch, breaker or panel must be opened or changed, use a licensed electrician.

What should I do if I smell burning or see sparks?+

Switch off the relevant circuit or main breaker, do not touch the damaged point, call 102 if there is smoke, then call a licensed electrician.
