Mixer removal as a separate job is needed more often than it seems: before renovation, before replacing a sink or basin, before tiling or simply when the old unit has to come off without a new one being fitted immediately. The main difficulty is avoiding thread damage and accidental leaks.
When a mixer is removed as a standalone job
- Before kitchen or bathroom renovation.
- Before replacing a sink, basin or bath.
- To access a wall, worktop or concealed tail.
- For disposal of the old unit.
How removal is done
- The water is isolated.
- Residual pressure is released.
- The tails or eccentrics are disconnected.
- The fixing is removed. Often from below, in awkward access.
- The point is inspected. To understand what the next installation will require.
What usually makes the work harder
- Scale and corrosion. The metal simply seizes.
- Poor access from below. Especially under kitchen sinks with filters, bins and disposers.
- Old wall eccentrics. They are easy to damage with brute force.
- Fragile tile. Around shower points this is a real risk.
Typical prices in Israel
- Mixer removal — 140–300 ₪
- With difficult access or old fixings — higher depending on time and risk
- With temporary capping of the outlets — by separate agreement
Frequently asked
Can the mixer just be removed and the outlets left until renovation?
Yes, but the outlets should be safely capped or isolated. Leaving everything open is not a good idea.
Why can removal cost almost as much as installation?
Because an old assembly is often harder than a new one: seized nuts, poor access, rust and the risk of damaging threads or tile.
If the mixer is wall-mounted, are the eccentrics removed as well?
Not always. If they are in good condition and suit the next mixer, they may stay. That decision is made after inspection.
