A full filter replacement is not only for systems that have completely failed. In many homes, an old housing, awkward servicing, recurring leaks or an outdated layout make replacement more sensible than ongoing patch repairs.
When the whole filter is replaced instead of only the cartridge
- The housing or sump is cracked. That unit should no longer be trusted.
- The system is outdated. Cartridges are hard to source, service is awkward and flow is poor.
- The unit keeps leaking at joints. Especially when plastic has aged or threads are damaged.
- The job itself has changed. For example, moving from a basic filter to RO or adding a separate drinking tap.
What is checked before replacement
- The type of the existing system. Inlet filter, under-sink unit, canisters, compact module or drinking-water setup.
- The condition of valves and connection parts. Sometimes part of the surrounding assembly should be replaced too.
- Space and access. The new unit must fit and still be serviceable later.
- The real cause of the complaint. Sometimes the issue is pressure, a dirty inlet or clogged hardware upstream rather than the filter itself.
What replacement usually includes
- Shutdown and removal of the old assembly.
- Inspection of the mounting points and threaded joints.
- Installation of the new filter or housing set.
- Flush, startup and leak check.
- Explanation of the next service interval.
Typical prices in Israel
- Water filter replacement — 580–1,050 ₪
- If the connection assembly needs rework — higher according to the actual scope
- If the system type is changing — price depends on the equipment and installation complexity
Frequently asked
How do I know whether the filter needs repair or full replacement?
If the issue is only a consumable or a seal, repair may be enough. But cracked housings, poor access, repeated leaks and obsolete hardware usually point to replacement.
Can the old valve setup stay in place while the filter is replaced?
Sometimes yes. But if the isolation valves, hoses or fittings are already tired, it is safer to refresh the whole assembly in one visit.
Can the system be used for drinking immediately after replacement?
Not always. New systems are usually flushed first, and drinking-water filters or RO units often need a full initial startup cycle.
