Installing a filter is not just about screwing in a housing and turning the water back on. The real questions are what problem the system solves, whether there is enough space, whether service access is good and whether the setup will work in real life rather than only on day one.
Where filters are usually installed
- At the apartment or house inlet. To protect all internal plumbing and appliances.
- Under the kitchen sink. For a dedicated drinking-water line or local polishing.
- Before a specific point. Such as a coffee machine, ice maker or dedicated appliance line.
What is checked before installation
- The purpose of the filter. Grit, taste, odour, limescale, drinking water or appliance protection.
- Water pressure. Some systems are sensitive to low or excessive pressure.
- Available space and access. So cartridges can actually be replaced later.
- Isolation valves. Without them, future service becomes more awkward than it should be.
What installation includes
- Preparing the connection point.
- Installing the housing or filter bodies.
- Connecting the feed and, if needed, a dedicated drinking tap.
- Flushing the system. This is mandatory for most new filters.
- Leak check and maintenance explanation.
What is often overlooked
- No room below the housing. The filter fits, but the cartridge cannot be removed later.
- The flow requirement was chosen badly.
- No proper initial flush was done.
- No service reminder exists. A year later the system is no longer doing its job.
Typical prices in Israel
- Water filter installation — 660–1,200 ₪
- With a separate drinking tap and extra fittings — higher depending on system configuration
- If the connection assembly needs rework — cost depends on the actual scope
Frequently asked
Can a filter be installed in an already crowded sink cabinet?
Sometimes yes, but the real space has to be checked. A common mistake is fitting the system physically while making future service impossible.
Can the filter be used for drinking immediately after installation?
Not always. Many systems require an initial flush, sometimes a fairly long one, to clear dust, storage residues and prepare the media.
Does an inlet filter replace a dedicated drinking-water system?
Usually not. It protects plumbing very well, but it does not necessarily solve drinking-water taste and finishing quality the way a dedicated kitchen system does.
