Siphon repair is needed when the fault is local: a leaking joint, drying water seal, one failed part or poor drainage geometry. Not every case requires full removal and a brand-new trap.
What is usually repaired
- Retightening and rebuilding joints.
- Replacing individual seals.
- Correcting bad geometry.
- Removing a local blockage inside the trap.
Most common symptoms
- Dripping under the sink.
- Sewer smell.
- Slow drainage.
- A leak appears when the dishwasher or washer drains.
When repair is no longer worth it
- The plastic body is cracked.
- The thread is stripped.
- The node is old and built from random parts.
- The repair would still leave a high risk of repeat leaks.
Typical cost
- Siphon repair — from 180 ₪
- If replacement turns out necessary — the price moves to replacement work
Frequently asked
Is smell from a siphon always caused by the siphon itself?
No. Sometimes the issue is sewer venting, a dried-out water seal, bad slope or a blockage further down the line.
If a siphon drips, will tightening the nuts harder fix it?
Not always. Overtightening easily damages plastic threads and distorts seals. The real leak point should be identified first.
