Radiator heating is less common in Israel than air conditioning, but it still matters for villas, colder regions, homes with boilers, heat pumps and hydronic floor heating. This page covers installation, replacement, pressure testing and design of those systems.
Where radiators are still used in Israel
- Villas and private houses. Often with a gas boiler, heat pump or a combined hydronic system.
- Jerusalem, Safed, the Golan and northern areas. Heating demand is much higher there than on the coast.
- Old-home renovations. When outdated radiators are replaced or the system is modernised.
- Projects with water-based underfloor heating. Radiators can work as separate zones or a backup circuit.
What radiator types are commonly chosen
- Aluminium. Lightweight, sectional and fast to heat up. Good for autonomous systems with decent water quality.
- Bimetal. Better for higher pressure and less-than-perfect heat carrier conditions.
- Steel. Panel models give a neat look and a good price/performance balance.
- Cast iron. Heavy and slow, but they retain heat well and suit restoration projects.
What should be checked before installation
- Heat source. Boiler, heat pump, central loop or a combined scheme.
- Pressure and fluid type. These affect the choice of radiator and valves.
- Room heat loss. Without section and output sizing, the room may stay cold.
- Condition of pipes and shut-off valves. A new radiator on old tails often means another callout a month later.
- Pressure testing after the work. Mandatory before startup and especially before hiding pipes in walls or boxes.
What jobs are usually included here
- New radiator installation. Marking out, brackets, connection set, air vent, valves and startup.
- Radiator replacement. Removing the old unit, fitting the new one and altering tails if needed.
- Removal and refit. For wall painting, floor repair or finish replacement.
- Pressure testing. Leak-tightness check after installation or before the heating season.
- Heating design. For villas, multi-level homes, zoned systems and full remodels.
Typical prices in Israel
- Installing one radiator — from 520 to 700 ₪ labour depending on type
- Radiator replacement — from 620 ₪ labour excluding the unit itself
- Removal / refit — from 520 ₪
- Pressure test — from 290 ₪ per circuit or callout
- Heating system design — from 1,600 ₪ and up
Frequently asked
Who handles radiators in Israel?
Usually a plumber with hydronic-heating experience. For complex builds or calculations, a heating engineer is added to the job.
Can I replace just one radiator without rebuilding the whole system?
Yes, if the existing pipes, valves and circuit conditions allow it. But old tails and shut-off valves often need at least partial updating.
Is pressure testing really necessary?
Yes. Without it you do not know whether the joints hold pressure. It is critical after new connections and any concealed pipework.
