A mixer or faucet looks like minor plumbing until it starts dripping, a flex hose bursts or a new unit turns out to be incompatible with the existing connection. In Israel this is especially sensitive because of hard water, pressure swings and a lot of low-cost fittings with a short service life.
What this group of jobs usually includes
- Mixers. Kitchen, bathroom basin, bath, shower, concealed and exposed models.
- Faucets / taps. Separate water draw-off points, outdoor taps, utility taps and appliance feed points.
- Consumables and connection parts. Cartridges, eccentrics, hoses, flex tails, seals, aerators, rails and holders.
- Minor repairs. Leaks, faulty bath/shower diverters, weak flow, seized handles and limescale build-up.
The most common problems
- Dripping after shut-off. Usually the cartridge, valve head or seat is at fault.
- Leak under the basin. Often the issue is not the mixer body but a tail or threaded joint.
- Weak or uneven flow. The aerator, screen, cartridge or filter is clogged by hard water.
- Temperature will not stabilise. Common with thermostatic mixers when scale builds up inside.
- A flex hose bursts. Usually because of age, poor quality or excessive system pressure.
What should be checked before installation or replacement
- Connection type. Single-hole, two-hole, wall-mounted, concealed body or exposed body.
- Spacing and geometry. Especially in showers and baths where eccentrics and outlet axis matter.
- Water pressure. At 5–6 bar even a good mixer wears faster without a reducer.
- Condition of tails and isolation valves. Fitting a nice new mixer onto old hoses is false economy.
- Wall and tile material. For shower rails and hygienic showers this affects fixing method and cracking risk.
How to extend the life of a mixer or faucet
- Fit a coarse inlet filter. Less sand and scale reaches the cartridges.
- Normalise the pressure. A pressure reducer often pays for itself by stopping hoses and mixers from failing early.
- Clean aerators and shower heads periodically. In Israel limescale makes this routine maintenance.
- Do not wait for an old flex hose to burst. Replace it preventively, not after a flood.

Frequently asked
Why does a new mixer start dripping after only a few months?
Often the real cause is not the mixer itself but high pressure, sand from the mains or old flex tails. Without a healthy inlet setup even a new fitting loses life quickly.
Is it always worth repairing a mixer instead of replacing it?
No. If the model is cheap, the body is worn, spare parts are odd or several parts are failing at once, replacement is usually more sensible.
Can I replace a faucet or mixer myself?
Sometimes yes if there is easy access, proper isolation valves and you understand threaded joints. But if the assembly is old, seized or partly concealed, one mistake easily turns into a leak and a second callout.
