Liquid acrylic is one of the most popular ways to renew an old bathtub without removing it. The refinisher pours the material over the prepared surface and it levels itself into a continuous new finish.
Why this method is often chosen
- The layer is thicker than standard enamel.
- The surface looks even and glossy.
- It covers visible cosmetic wear well.
- The tub itself does not need to be removed.
What matters before pouring
- Good substrate preparation.
- Normal tub geometry. Acrylic does not fix a twisted shell.
- A sound waste assembly and no active leaks.
- Readiness to leave the tub unused until full cure.
How liquid acrylic differs from enamel
- Liquid acrylic is poured and thicker.
- Enamel is usually thinner and more dependent on spray and prep quality.
- Both methods still require gentle, non-abrasive care.
Typical cost
- Liquid acrylic restoration — from 980 ₪
- With major defects and deep prep — higher depending on tub condition
Frequently asked
Is liquid acrylic really more durable than enamel?
Often yes, because the layer is thicker. But the real result still depends on surface prep and how the tub is treated afterwards.
Why can water not be used immediately after pouring?
Because the material needs full curing. Early contact with water, chemicals or load damages the finish.
Will liquid acrylic hide old stains and wear?
Yes, that is one of its strengths. But it does not cure through-cracks, unstable support or drain problems.
