A level tiled floor starts with a sound base and a planned layout. The tile photo alone cannot show the full job.
Check the substrate
Have the tiler check flatness, strength and moisture. Cracks and loose screed need attention before laying. In bathrooms and on balconies, check falls toward drains and the waterproofing separately: tile adhesive is not a waterproofing layer.
Agree the layout
Set the row direction, joint width, edge cuts and spare tiles from the same batch. Large tiles need a flatter base and suitable tools. Rectified tiles still need joints; a request for a completely jointless floor should be discussed before ordering.
Quote and handover
Separate area, levelling, waterproofing, adhesive, grout, skirting and furniture moving in the quote. Inspect the plane in side light, joint lines and door transitions. Ask when the specific adhesive allows foot traffic and full loading.
Send the tiler
- Floor area and photos of the exposed base.
- Tile size, material and available spare quantity.
- Doors, thresholds, drains and furniture positions.
- Whether demolition, waterproofing and skirting are included.
Frequently asked
Can thick adhesive level an uneven floor?
Only within the specified range of the chosen adhesive. Larger variations need a separate levelling step.
Should I buy spare tiles?
Yes. Cuts, breakage and later repairs require tiles from the same production batch. The allowance depends on format and pattern.
Is grouting included in the metre rate?
It depends on the quote. Confirm grout material, filling work and flexible perimeter joints as explicit items.
