A flexible hose is one of the most underestimated causes of flooding. Nobody thinks about it while it looks intact, yet it is often the part that fails suddenly at night, on a weekend or when nobody is home.
When a hose should be replaced
- It has already served for years. Especially if the install date is unknown.
- The braid shows swelling, rust or dark staining.
- There are damp traces near the nuts.
- The hose is kinked, stretched or rubbing on furniture.
Where flex hoses are most often used
- Under kitchen sinks and basins.
- On mixers and individual taps.
- Before washing machines and dishwashers.
- At service points and utility areas.
What replacement includes
- Water isolation.
- Removing the old hose and inspecting the threads.
- Selecting the correct length and type. Without tension or useless looping.
- Installing the new hose and checking the joints.
- Rechecking after water is turned back on.
Typical mistakes
- Hose too long. The loop kinks and ages faster.
- Hose too short. It is always under tension.
- Poor quality. Saving a little often ends in a real accident.
- Ignoring system pressure. High pressure shortens hose life sharply.
Typical prices in Israel
- Flexible hose replacement — 90–220 ₪
- With a pair of new hoses and small consumables — 150–300 ₪
- If access is difficult or old valves also need replacing — higher depending on the actual job
Frequently asked
If the hose looks fine outside, can I leave it?
Not necessarily. A hose may age internally or simply be near the end of its safe life. Visual checks help, but they are not the whole story.
Can I use the cheapest hose available?
Better not. The price difference is small, while the risk of leakage or rupture is much higher with poor-quality hoses.
Should both hoses be replaced together?
Often yes, especially if they are the same age. If one has already reached its limit, the second usually is not far behind.
