An acrylic insert is a ready-made inner shell fitted inside the old bathtub. It is chosen when a new working surface is needed without demolishing the old tub and surrounding finishes.
When an insert works best
- The old tub keeps its shape.
- The surface is heavily worn.
- You do not want to break tile and replace the whole tub.
- You want the visual effect of a new bathtub quickly.
What must be checked first
- Geometry match. The insert must fit the existing shell precisely.
- Drain and overflow condition. These often need rework together with the insert.
- Base rigidity. If the tub moves, the insert does not solve that.
- Wall-joint condition.
How it differs from liquid acrylic
- An insert is a separate ready-made shell.
- Liquid acrylic is a poured coating over the existing surface.
- An insert depends heavily on exact geometry.
- Neither method removes the need to fix a bad drain or leak.
Typical cost
- Acrylic insert restoration — from 290 ₪
- If the drain, overflow or wall joints need work — priced separately
Frequently asked
Can an insert be fitted into any old bathtub?
No. If the shape is non-standard, the shell is deformed or dimensions do not match, the method may not be suitable.
Does an insert hide old chips and stains?
Yes, because it creates a new inner surface, but only if the old base remains stable enough underneath.
Does the drain need to be touched when fitting an insert?
Usually yes. The drain and overflow zone is critical, and a quality result normally requires careful reassembly there.
